Grant Access for an Existing User or Manually Created User to an Existing Extranet Role

Tip: The Site Sponsor is granted external user account management permissions by the SharePoint Administrator. There are several choices that the SharePoint Administrator can make when setting up a Site Sponsor. To understand the various choices and permissions of the Site Sponsor, visit the How-To Articles under Self-Service entitled "Configure Extranet Site Sponsors".  The Site Sponsor can manage Extranet User Accounts for the SharePoint Groups and/or Extranet Users included in the Site Sponsor's Administrative Security Definition.

Important Consideration:  A site-wide Security Policy or a Site Sponsor Associative Security Definition may have been pre-established for each Site by the SharePoint Administrator.  If so, it will cause the appropriate permissions to be automatically granted when a new user registers as a result of recieving an invitation email.  In this case, it will be unnecessary for a Site Sponsor to use the Grant Access feature described in this article.  Access to the site will have already been granted due to the pre-established site-wide Security Policy or Site Sponsor Associative Security Definition.  To learn about site-wide Security Policies, see Security Policies.

If the Site Sponsor has been granted permission, and if the Site Sponsor has "Optional Associative Security Definitions", then the Site Sponsor can grant access to their extranet users.

On the Manage Sponsor Accounts page, the Site Sponsor can grant a new or existing user access by adding them to an existing SharePoint Group or Extranet Role that the Site Sponsor has in his list of Optional Associative Security Definitions. This is accomplished by first selecting the user account that needs to be edited then clicking on the Grant Access icon in the Ribbon (assuming the Site Sponsor has been granted this capability):

On the Grant Access window, choose from any Site Access options for the user.

In this example, sue@acme.com will be granted the permissions in the site that the ACME Manager SharePoint Group members receive.
