1. Run ExCM Setup Wizard

The Setup Wizard is found in Central Administration on the General Application Settings page:

The Setup Wizard is very powerful and automatically performs the following tasks:

• Creates the ASP.NET Membership database on the farm's SQL server, for an extranet web application
• Gives the appropriate SQL permissions to the application pool identity of your extranet web application
• Creates and queues up an extensive list of the web.config file edits that are needed by the Extranet Global Configuration Timer Job to configure Forms-based Authentication using the ASP.NET Membership Provider with your extranet web application

Follow these steps to run the Setup Wizard and accomplish these tasks automatically in your farm:

1. Click on the Setup Wizard link to go to the Extranet Setup Wizard configuration page:
   
2. Take a minute to read the contents of the yellow informationwarning box at the top of the page:
   
3. Select your extranet web application from the Web Application drop down:
   
    
   If you see that an extranet directory database connection string is already present for the selected web application, that means that ExCM has already been configured for the web application.  In this case, it is not appropriate to continue with running the Setup Wizard.
   
   
4.   After you have selected your web application from the drop-down options, you will then add the name of your database server or alias.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
5. Enter a name for the new SQL database that will get created and used to store the accounts of your external users.  If this is your first web application to configure for extranet access, a good choice for the name is "ExtranetDirectory", but you can use whatever name you desire as long as it does not include any special characters.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
6. When you move to the next field on the form, the wizard will automatically suggest names for the next three values:                                                                                                                                               
   
   Tip: You can accept the default names, or choose other names per the example below.  If you will only have a single extranet web application, shorter names will probably be preferred by your end-users since the names chosen here will show up as a prefix to the login name for external user accounts.  We often recommend the names shown below when a customer will only have a single extranet web application:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Important: You will need these names you enter for the Membership Provider and Role Provider in a later step.  So, it is a good idea to write them down or take a screenshot before leaving this page.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
7. After completely filling in the form, click the Create button.  The page will automatically refresh and at the top, you will see this message indicating that your settings will be applied by the Extranet Global Configuration Timer Job and that you will need to allow some time (probably 5 - 10 minutes) for the job to perform its processing on all the servers in your farm:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  
8. You can review the changes to the web.config files that were made by the Setup Wizard by viewing the Extranet Modification History list in Site Contents of the Central Administration site.  Note that you will need to wait for 10 - 15 minutes before all of the modifications have been written to this list:
   
   
   
9. After the modifications have been made by the Extranet Global Configuration Timer Job, you can proceed to the next step:  2. Configure the Extranet Web Application.
