3. Add Extranet Account Managers

An Extranet Account Manager is a special permission level provided by ExCM.  It is intended to be granted to SharePoint Farm Administrators and other "super users" who need to act in an administrative capacity over your entire extranet.

Tip:  ExCM also provides for "Site Sponsors" which is a special permission level that is designed to be a way to delegate limited extranet account management capabilities to a business user in a specific extranet site.  See this How-To Article for more information about the Site Sponsors feature.

At a minimum, you should add your SharePoint Farm Administrators as Extranet Account Managers using these instructions:

  1. Navigate to General Application Settings > Extranet Collaboration Manager > Account Managers:
Central Administration Extranet Collaboration Manager Account Managers
  2. Select your extranet web application from the drop down:
Extranet Account Manager web application selection
  3. Click on Add Account Manager:

  4. In the Membership Provider drop down, select the name of the your Membership Provider for the web application:

Warning:  These instructions assume you have used the Extranet Setup Wizard to configure your web application as shown in the previous two steps of this section.  By doing that, you will have a single zone for your extranet web application and all servers (WFEs and CA server) will have matching web.config files that are correctly edited to enable SharePoint forms-based authentication (FBA).

Scenarios where you have manually configured your extranet web application (e.g. multiple zones and/or have manual editing your web.config files), the instructions on this page may or may not work for you and you may need to contact our technical support team for special instructions.
