License Installation and Activation
ExCM requires that a license key is installed and activated on every server in your SharePoint Farm.
Article Contents:
Installing and activating a license key is a simple process if your SharePoint server(s) has outbound access to the Internet. Follow the instructions below for Automatic License Key Activation.
If you are an existing customer that
needs to renew existing subscription license keys,
please go here.
If your servers
do not have outbound Internet access, you must activate your new Perpetual or new Subscription license keys using
the manual process shown later on this page.
- Find the SharePoint Solutions License Administration link on your Start menu and run it. The License Administrator software will start up:

- Click on File > Activation Wizard.....

- Choose "I want to activate the software over the Internet":

- Enter the activation key you received from our Software Sales department and click next:

- The License Administrator software will access our licensing servers over the Internet and pull in your license details from the servers. Assuming activation is successful, you should see this page:

After you have installed and activated licenses on every server in your farm, proceed to the Verify Installation page.
If you are an existing customer that
needs to renew existing subscription license keys,
please go here.
You will need to follow a two stage process that is involved with manual activation of new perpetual or new subscription license keys:

<
- Click on File > Activation Wizard.....

- Next, you will be given some text that represents your License Request Contents. You must email this text to our Software Sales department:

- In return (allow 1 business day), you will receive a manual license file (.bin extension) that you can use to do an offline activation.
Stage 2:
After you have been notified by our Sales Department that your license(s) has been activated and you have received the manually activated license (.bin file):
- Start the Activation Wizard again and choose "I have a license file I want to install":

- Browse to the location of the license file that you received from our Software Sales department and then click Next:

- At this point you should be able to complete the wizard and your license key will show as activated.
After you have installed and activated licenses on every server in your farm, proceed to the Verify Installation page.
If you have an annual subscription license(s) (either in Production or TestDev), you will need to reactivate your license(s) after you have paid for the renewal of your subscription AND your existing license key(s) has expired.
Option A: For servers that are able to reactivate licenses over the Internet:
Once you have been notified by our Sales Department that your subscription license(s) has been renewed and on the day your subscription license key(s) expires (but not before), follow these procedures to reactivate your existing keys:
- Find the SharePoint Solutions License Administration link on your Start menu and run it. The License Administrator software will start up:

- Select the line for the expired license key that you wish to reactivate:

- From the License drop down menu, choose the Reactivate option:

- Choose "I want to activate the software over the Internet":

- Your existing key will automatically be populated in the Product Activation Wizard dialog. Click Next:

- Finish the wizard by clicking through it and reactivating your key over the Internet.
Option B: For servers that ARE NOT ABLE to activate licenses over the Internet:
You will need to follow the two stage process that is involved with manual subscription license reactivation:
Stage 1:
After you have been notified by our Sales Department that your subscription has been renewed:
- Find the SharePoint Solutions License Administration link on your Start menu and run it. The License Administrator software will start up:

- Select the line for the expired subscription license key that you wish to reactivate:

- From the License drop down menu, choose the Reactivate option:

- Choose "I want to request a license file":

- Your existing key will automatically be populated in the Product Activation Wizard dialog. Click Next:

- Next, you will be given some text that represents your License Request Contents. You must email this text to our Software Sales department:

- In return (allow 1 business day), you will receive a manual license file (.bin extension) that you can use to do an offline activation.
- Close out the wizard and wait for our Sales Department to manually activate your license(s) and send you a manual license file(s).
Stage 2:
You must not start Stage2 until your existing subscription license key(s) shows a status of "Expired" in License Administration. If you complete this stage before the existing license(s) have expired, you will have to go back and redo the steps in Stage 1 when they do expire.
- On the day of expiration, select the expired license and from the License drop down menu, choose the Reactivate option:

- Once you have received the manual license file from our Sales Department, start the Activation Wizard again and choose "I have a license file I want to install":

- Your existing subscription license key will automatically be populated in the Product Activation Wizard dialog. Click Next:

- Browse to the location of the license file (.bin file) that you received from our Software Sales department and then click Next:

- At this point, you should be able to complete the wizard and your subscription license will show as activated.
